The UCPath Center is the University of California's shared services center in Riverside, CA. The UCPath Center manages the payroll, benefits, and other human resources transactions for more than 200,000 UC employees working across ten UC campuses, five medical centers, three national labs and more. Position Summary

The Benefits Assistant will work within the UCPath Center, reporting directly to the Production Supervisor, Benefits. Initially, the Benefits Assistant is responsible for supporting the implementation of the UCPath Center. Key activities may include supporting the development of training materials, documentation of processes and procedures, systems testing, and others. The Benefits Assistant will be responsible for providing assistance to the extended HR team with respect to health and welfare benefits inquiries and issues. This entails the implementation and operation of benefits administrative practices and procedures for complying with federal and state legislation. The Benefits Assistant is also responsible for the analysis/testing, implementation and administration of new/revised organizational benefit programs and policies, including the technical component of these processes.

Benefits Administration

Assists in the implementation and operation of benefits administrative practices and procedures for complying with federal and state legislation. Provides assistance to the extended HR team with respect to benefit, and leave inquires and issues. Assist in the outgoing case management and employee, location and vendor communication related to audit transactions and eligibility discrepancies. Under supervision processes benefits enrollments, audit reports, updates, and changes to employee benefit records and billing accounts. Assist in the daily process and evaluation of eligibility, batch processing, and benefit premium reconciliation. Assists in the system maintenance for daily transactions and batch results. Learns benefits for employees on leave of absence and workers' compensation. Participates in the roll-out of benefits administrative practices. Under supervision, assist on daily interactions with external vendors and internal resources to establish and improve relationships. Learns the data audits of benefit programs to ensure appropriate deductions and to identify systemic issues.

Benefits Data Maintenance

Assists in data integrity and system maintenance with respect to benefit administration. Assists in providing oversight for the maintenance and updating of all benefit programs on the UCPath system. Assists in providing oversight for the ongoing operation of Benefits Administration on PeopleSoft. Learns the administration, analysis/testing and implementation of new/revised organizational benefit programs and policies, including the technical component of these processes. Works with associates and IT to set up queries and jobs, based on defined parameters and specifications related to benefits processes.

Experience
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of (1) year of relevant benefits and leave administration experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge, skills and abilities needed to analyze and determine how the benefit plans are developed and administered in the most efficient manner. Ability to provide high quality work utilizing strong and effective communication (written and verbal), time management, and collaboration skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent people skills, with ability to effectively interact, collaborate in a team environment, and influence across all levels of an organization. Ability to handle ambiguity in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent tasks and changing priorities. Ability to maintain flexibility and quickly address changing priorities. Ability to accomplish assigned projects without compromising the integrity of the UCPath and/or University of California policies and procedures. Ability to appropriately handle confidential matters and material. Highly self-motivated and directed. Strong computer skills, with intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and experience working with databases.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with shared service center practices and technologies. Experience and proficiency in the PeopleSoft 9.2 HCM, Benefits Administration, and Absence Management modules. Knowledge of UC personnel policies and procedures.

$26.09 - $32.03 an hour

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at the UCPath Center in Riverside and remote in California.
